Rhode Island Red Hens bred specifically for their egg laying ability. Raised in the fresh mountain air near Rincon de la Vieja National Park in Costa Rica.
They just keep getting bigger and bigger! A while back one of our hens laid an egg with a circumference of 20 cm (photo on left) but last week we even trumped that - this egg had a circumference of 20.5 cm! (middle photo). The large eggs are photographed beside one of our normal-sized eggs. Of course eggs of this size generally have 2 yolks inside, which this one did as well.
